John Kovalchick, age 76 of North Branch, Died July 30, 2002 at Cooper Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born on August 20, 1925 in Flint, the son of John and Helen Kovalchick.

He and Beatrice Beard were united in marriage on November 6, 1948 in Flint, Michigan. He served  his county in the U.S. Navy and retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Branch. The congregation well miss his warm smile, in his role as a greeter and usher for his church, and  his willing spirit to help in many of the church's ministries. John also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, daughter, Linda (husband, Ronald) Loomis of North Branch, son, Gordon Kovalchick of North Branch, grandchildren; Krista (husband, Raymond) Bates, Alicia Loomis, Jon Kovalchick, and Gregory Kovalchick, sisters; Irene Dickie of Vernon, Michigan, Mary Poczatek of Durand, Michigan, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joe, sisters; Anna, Sue and Ellen.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of North Branch.

The family will be present for visitation on Thursday, August 1, 2002 from 5 to 8, Friday, August 2, 2002 from 11 to 1 and 4 to 8, Saturday, August 3, 2002 at the church from 10 to 11. The service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 3, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in North Branch with Pastor Richard Whittenburg officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in North Branch with military honors by the American Legion Post # 457.
