James R. Diegel, age 74 of Fostoria, Michigan, died Friday, April 11, 203 at Cooper Covenant Health Care in Saginaw. Jim was born January 8, 1929 in Clifford, Michigan, the son of Norman and Elnora (Ryan) Diegel.

Jim graduated from North Branch High School in 1948, he then attended Michigan State University for two years. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army. Only July 2, 1971 he married Doris (McLaughlin) Fischer in North Branch. Jim was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, past member of the Lapeer American Legion and the Lapeer Eagles. Jim enjoyed gardening and yard work, and watching the Detroit Tigers.

Jim is survived by step-sons; Larry (Barbara) Fischer of Chesaning, Michigan, Duane (Denice) Fischer of North Branch, Michigan, Randy (Sue) Fischer of Coulee Dam, Washington, grandchildren; Sheryl (Tom) Jacobs of Jackson, Michigan, Lucas, Jill, Kelly, and Zachary Fischer, great-grandsons; Fischer Thomas and Colton Jeffery Jacobs, brother, Francis (Frank) Kiegel of Lapeer, Michigan, sister-in-law; Mary Jane Diegel of Clio, Michigan and Myrtle Diegel of Luzerne, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Doris in 2001, brothers; Tom, Eugene, sister, Reita Flannigan.

Memorials may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

The family will be present for visitation on Sunday, April 13, 2003 from 2 to 8, at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home and Monday Jim will lie in state at SS. Peter and Paul Church from 10 to 11, the funeral mass will be at 10:00 with Rev. Fr. Richard Treml officiating. Burial will be in St. Patricks Cemetery, Clifford, Michigan.
